“People are not ok out here” seems like a valid and crucial operating principle for this whole era tbh

It’s hilarious to try to imagine what it’s like to believe that people making a million dollars A YEAR are somehow living paycheck to paycheck and can’t afford a 4% increase in the marginal tax rate
I say it over and over again: when you have that much money, you want to live where you want to live and you are simply not going to relocate because of marginal tax rates

Alan Dershowitz will never leave Martha’s Vineyard and they won’t even sell him a pierogi
NEW: The first two years of Massachusetts' millionaire tax has raised $3 billion more than expected.

And rather than driving the rich away, IPS researchers found that the number of millionaires has *increased.*

I regularly bike on a riverside path named after James I. Rice, onetime county park commissioner and state representative. The Transit app calls this path the "James the First Rice Parkway Trail" and I hope they never fix it.

And what I saw tonight was a party already exploding.

Minneapolis turns out votes for the statewide. We're a stronghold. And if people aren't excited and ready to knock doors because they can't trust Democrats? We're fucked.

We need to real talk and we got corporate jargon.

Is NYT reporting on any subject trustworthy? Asking for a generation that remembers the invasion of Iraq

Good recipes though I hear. Fun word puzzles
The question everyone is asking right now is this: NYT had deep access into all of this in real time and reported none of it. Why? In consequence, no NYT reporting on this subject is trustworthy.

The DFL is a shitshow and I'm dedicated to doing my part in fixing it over the next year because if they don't get their shit together, we are going to lose and my life and home in Minnesota will be at risk.

If you're mad about this shit like me, help me out with this organizing effort.

Hi Minnesotan Bluesky:

The DFL has a well-known transphobia problem. I'm organizing to change the party platform in 2026 to be explicitly supportive of trans people in Minnesota. This will provide a basis for expelling transphobia from our party.

This is great!
So happy to support an affordable housing trust fund award to trellis for their adaptive reuse of the flour exchange building in ward 7. More housing coming downtown in a former office, a beautiful building right by city hall!

Why did it never occur to me until this moment that the DSA was something I could join?
my life in ward 7 has been 13 years of lisa goodman, 2 years of katie cashman, next up: 4 years of something worse than goodman: elizabeth shaffer

Happy to be of service. I once got into a taxi in Dublin wearing a cool new outfit. I was nervous about deviating from the norm but did it anyway.

The taxi driver was on the phone when I got in. First thing he did was finish his phone call saying "I have to go, this fella's wearing dungarees"

Great piece by Zadie Smith. When the right talks about classics or "Western" culture, these works are only important to the extent that it demonstrates their superiority, they have no interest in art in and of itself beyond that www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

We drove about a mile to a park large enough to be pretty dark even on the road and several people stopped just to see why people were out and there was so much sharing wonder with strangers. We should all get to do that more.

I’m thinking of books that changed how I read and books that changed how I see, and I think Mrs. Dalloway is the sweet spot.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

Which reminds me, a month or two ago I talked to a nurse friend who was thinking about moving to clinic work because he was pretty sure the US hospital system was on the brink of collapse.
Listen to those workers closest to day-to-day realities, so we don’t need a 50th anniversary remembrance of the next preventable disaster. 🚢🌊
SS Edmund Fitzgerald had a structural defect in its keel. Sailors on that ship had complained about the ship bending and flexing during storms, especially when it was overloaded, which it usually was. They had also found old keel weld breaks due to structural fatigue, which were never repaired
