In Delaware, as many as 25% of adolescents may identify as LGBTQ+. In the 2022-24 DE School Survey, mental health symptoms and underage substance use levels were alamring for all youth, and all outcomes were worse for LGBTQ+ youth.

Today in a college Zoom meeting attended by 95 of my colleagues, my cat jumped onto my laptop and unmuted me, then jumped onto a small collection of potted plants, shattering them, and I groaned/yelped while OFF MUTE.

So let’s add that to my list of current work stressors.

How do LGBTQIA+ youth learn what it means to be LGBTQIA+? Who are the key players in this process?

Chosen family play a BIG role, and origin family contribute but much less. LGBTQIA+ socialization may be another way we can support youth.
