this makes a lot of sense when paired with Kate Manne's discussion of entitlement and sexism. a sense of empowerment very often is dependent on oppressing others. this is why ppl "vote against their interests"; they see their status as linked to the subordination of others.
I was just reading about lynchings as acts of White freedom in Jefferson Cowie's *Freedom's Dominion*. Sadly, very relevant. Quotation here:

wrote about Trump’s ableist xenophobic rant on Thanksgiving. He sounds desperate—and he actually alienated a key Republican supporter.

as he loses traction, he doubles down, which is very dangerous. He also faces more opposition, though. www.publicnotice.co/p/trump-than...
Trump's ugly Thanksgiving meltdown
It's getting so bad that even Republicans are starting to notice.

More pages straight from the authoritarian playbook
Increasingly concerning that the Trump Admin is obliterating data so we can’t document what they’re destroying. In this case, gold standard tracking of health care access, insurance coverage and costs. It’s a study that will help us understand the impacts of the Big Beautiful Bill.
MEPS seems to be gone as of now. This is very bad. These are critical pieces of data about health care and they belong to the American public.

I know what she's doing. She's a grifter. One of the ways to undermine a grifter is to say their words back to them in a way that highlights that they are silly people saying incoherent things.

They don't care about being mean (they're into it) but they definitely care about seeming cool.

Time to move from me to we, Senator
Until he starts calling for immediate resignations & impeachments, it's all sort of meaningless words. Shift the Overton window by calling it all what it is & demanding Congressional Republicans who also swore oaths to uphold the Constitution & control both houses fulfill them.
Sen. Kelly: “President Trump is trying to silence me. Threatening to kill me for saying what is true. And he sent his Secretary of Defense after me. And it's not going to work.”

All I'm saying is that in the 1960s, the white supremacist Louisiana Catholics Leander Perez and Una Gaillot were (at least temporarily) excommunicated for their revolting words and actions. There is precedent.

The thing about laws and legality is once you reach the tipping point, the fascists rewrite the laws. The Holocaust was strictly legal under German law.
similarly "torturing prisoners" is the kind of thing that you'd assume is an illegal order...except these freaks made sure to create a legal justification for it. not illegal now!
"Don't follow illegal orders" would be more meaningful if Democrats had prosecuted literally any of the prominent war criminals of the last 30 years instead of, you know, fucking campaigning with them

If the Venezuelan sailors were enemy combatants, then the 2nd strike is a war crime.

If the Venezuelan sailors weren’t enemy combatants, then both strikes are criminal murder.

It’s that simple.

"Never spread the lie in the headline" should be a hard rule of 21st century journalism.

Research shows that repeating lies helps to spread them, and people read headlines more than they read stories.
News media has to do better with headlines that present false and unverified public health claims.

There is a metric shit-ton of problems our society is facing, but I'd argue this is the one they pretty much all stem from:
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.
