Always an open question if the UK and UK companies were part of Europe's defence base.

I do hope this gets resolved, but let's not forget the point of this programme: to bolster European security

Two nice companion pieces on Brexit and where UKG is at.

It is not pretty reading.

It very much appears as if Labour are past the point of no return on Europe, and of not being returned by voters.

On Político's firstly, you get a clear sense that leaving 🇪🇺 is a tremendously bad Idea.

Where is the morality in blocking an eight-year-old girl made destitute by a Hurricane from coming to the UK to join her parents?

Fewer workers. Fewer international students. More people leaving.

A "step in the right direction" according to the PM.

Impossible to take PM/govt seriously on growth if they are deliberately reducing it (and making the fiscal position worse) *as a matter of policy*.

Sorry "rejoin the EU and all the UK's problems will be solved" is as much a simplism as the others, not least as there's no instant process and no overwhelming demand on the other side to bend any rules for the UK.

Today we’ll get latest net immigration figures - They’ll show immigration for work is plummeting.

Why is this not part of the discussion on Rachel Reeves balancing her books & stalled growth?

For every 100,000 drop in net immigration, the OBR adds £7bn to the deficit. #r4today

The two-child benefit cap is finally in the bin.

Govt was made to do the right thing by Greens and campaigners, but too many families have been harmed by Labour foot-dragging.

The unjust overall benefit cap must end too for every child in poverty to be helped. #Budget

Good to hear Rachel Reeves finally attack the 2 child benefit cap - but if Labour were so much against it, why’s it taken them so long to scrap it? And why were Labour MPs suspended for saying *exactly* the same last year? There’s no moral high ground here #budget2025

The idea that up to now Brussels has been nastily blocking progress, and the MS would be much more inclined to do 'a new deal' with the UK (like May's 'bespoke deal'?), is wrong on many levels. The MS know the value of unity, and are often stricter in their demands than the EU institutions.
