Sorry this has really got under my skin. When threatening mobs turn up in villages they are most often in uniform representing a demented state, such as the Nazi murderers systematically eliminating Jews hundreds at a time in Polish villages and small towns.
Elon Musk, "These lovely small towns in England, Scotland and Ireland, they've been living their lives quietly. They're like hobbits"

"And so one day, 1,000 people show up in your village of 500 and start raping the kids"

"This has now happened, God knows how many times in Britain"

How is Liz Truss relevant in any way? Even Johnson has mostly disappeared, but that might be part of a strategy to avoid paying child support for some of his offspring

10 years on (with a two-year hiatus for covid) we are finally finished excavating at the Lago di Venere. Relief tinged with sadness, but we’ll be back for a study season!

It really takes a lot for me to say this, but the Graham tweet is genuinely a pretty offensive thing to say.
Despite seeing several people I totally trust say this was real I still felt I had to verify it with my own eyes. And having done so I still can't believe it's real.

This is pretty terrible even by the standards of per course hiring. Works out at approx. 25 UKP an hour excl. prep. and marking. Less than half of what Birkbeck and others pay in central London for similar work.

It's infuriating for scholars who have been preparing or already submitted proposals, but it's also so awful for those who work or have been let go from the NEH. Everyone I've encountered there has been professional, supportive, and most of all they really care about the NEH's mission.
