Excellent method for discriminating between hot streaks and quality finishers.

@dmitry.mclachbot.com might enjoy this.
New article: "Shrinkage, Uncertainty, and Son Heung-min: Using Bayesian Methods to Identify Finishing Ability"

which discusses using a Bayesian hierarchical approach to quantifying player finishing ability, with credible intervals to express uncertainty.

Phew! I've had quite enough of Chelsea players picking up long term injuries.
Just a small update on #CFC loanee Mike Penders, who had to be subbed due to injury v Brondby last week. It was only a dead leg and Strasbourg expect him to return very soon.

Chelsea's recent approach has been difficult to understand at times - but Nizaar Kinsella wonders whether it is time to start giving them some credit.

Just reposting this so I can find it again. A very informative, erm... thread.
Peer inside and you can spot more cost-cutting. To prevent the raw edges from fraying, AE uses a messy overlock stitch. On a higher-quality pair of jeans, this area (the seat) will be made with a flat-felled seam. This is more labor intensive, but also adds durability.

Yet another excellent tactical review from Cox.
Sparkling opening to the article, too .
Incredible that England have won Euro 2025 having trailed in all three knockout games. But the performance against Spain was good. Wiegman made some very big calls, which helped to close the gap to a Spain side who were clearly the most talented at the tournament.

I wondered how FIFA concluded that Sanchez won the Golden Glove. This is a good explainer.

Obviously, his performance in the final itself was brilliant, but this was an award for the whole tournament.
Robert Sanchez won the Golden Gloves as the best goalkeeper at the 2025 Club World Cup after Chelsea's 3-0 victory over PSG, boasting an 81.5% save percentage by stopping 22 of 27 shots and aiding three goals with his distribution. Chelsea Football Club
