Interesting to me how characters whose specific role is to be "the strongest" (or one of) in the setting - All Might, Yami, Gojo, Makima, Desscaras - has just become an accepted norm in battle manga as a form. The ceiling is now just expected to be set from the start, rather than raised infinitum.
Need JRPG writers to start cribbing from popular shonen manga again so that they all read Ichi the Witch and we get a slew of aura farming black girls

So for everything who celebrated first time, we not have Cinderella Gray's rendition of Mejiro Ryan in color.

Rejoice!

So is Girls Und Panzer actually worth watching, or is it just another moe-slop franchise.

Asking because the experiences I've had with cute girls franchises shows it can kinda go either way.

so having just watched shin kamen rider, i have a question for tokusatsu fans: why did that movie have more sauce and aura than superhero films i've seen with 20 times the budget?

I just really enjoy how their character designs & colors contrast each other lol

The downfall of Yo-Kai Watch in general needs to be studied if just for how dramatically if rose and fell. The franchise went from being the first true competitor to Pokemon ever made to going through about four separate failed reboots in less than a decade.
I think the American Yo-kai Watch marketing campaign should be in museums and university curriculums as one of the greatest disasters of all time but that would require anyone to actually remember Yo-kai Watch

There's a lot of factors at play in regards to Power Rangers' cultural decline into a punchline, but that it contributed directly to killing its source franchise might very well be the final nail in the coffin.

Chris Cocks be living up to his name.

So, with RevStar done, my next pursuit is something which is probably a little unexpected:

Concrete Revolutio!

This is a series I started watching *years* ago, while it was airing in-fact, but never truly finished. Being lesser-known, this might be more esoteric, but I hope you enjoy the ride.

So now my current question is what I'm going to watch next.

Have a few ideas, though they might surprise people.

Finished Revue Starlight

Talking about this is tricky, because RevStar is inherently two things. The TV anime is, while with moments of brilliance, is overly messy, unpolished, and deeply frustrating.

The movie is one of the greatest things I have ever seen.

Since this thread got very, *very* long, I think it's appropriate we move to a new one for the movie.

This oughta be interesting, if nothing else.

Interesting observation I've noticed is that the trend amongst "modern" battle manga and related genres isn't the protags being stupid, but being some variation of country bumpkins or some other form of separated from regular society. Tanjiro, Asta, Denji, and Ichi all fit this.

Y’all know I am outspoken in favor treating the Pokédex as a genuine, intentionally existent part of Pokémon’s worldbuilding and as trustworthy a source of information about its nonexistent world as any. But I think one of the weirdest counterexamples I see used against that is Lanturn’s Dex entry.

Getting back into media consumption and analysis has led me to start reading Ichi the Witch, and holy *crap*, this is a gorgeous manga. A really engaging start solidified not just on Usuzaki's incredible art, but also some ponderings on life and nature which manage a strong thematic base.

@trentin.bsky.social Legitimate question I have, how legitimate is the image of the "Traditional Shonen Manga Hero" in actual practice? Because, looking through the most significant Jump titles, it seems like very few bar One Piece actually properly fill the mold unilaterally.

Post-Medaka battle manga fascinate me in large part because they're essentially written from a position of "complete" theory of how the genre works. We got a series all about the messy compiled legacy of the genre, and now everything which follows is starting from a very new base.
when they inevitably announce an ICHI THE WITCH adaptation in the next couple weeks I'm gonna be so worried. this is the best shit ever. this is what every shonen battle manga aspires to be but rarely comes even close to. and it's beautifully drawn to boot

So, I was curious about what this line was in the Japanese, and it turns out it was actually *more* overt there.

お見合い isn't just "first date", it's a reference used for matchmaking amongst prospective marriage candidates. Holy cow, Tama.

While Anicrush is down, I've been using some of that time to read through Iori Miyazawa's famous 2018 "Yuri of Absence" interview. Fascinating stuff.

You think that's bad? Because, for the Legion of Superheroes' first black member, they gave him the setting that seemingly all black people in the utopic 30th century had self-exiled themselves from the rest of society to live on an island.

At least the Black Bomber wasn't published.

dragon ball is different to other shonen manga in that it never really redeems its villains or makes them sympathetic it instead just believes that if you grindset hard enough you just kinda stop caring about being evil
