It conjures up a piece in which Nawal El Saadawi wrote some years ago: “Marriage was a grave to me, despite some rare happy moments. Motherhood was a prison, in spite of my great love and respect for my two creative children.” Not what you’d call an endorsement to go down on one knee.

There's also its eerie sonic partner: "kolje," the third-person singular present tense of the verb "klati"—meaning "to slaughter," "to butcher."
