Disappointing to see this news. The domain system was already a great, equitable solution for verification. Blue checkmarks for “notability” only serve social stratification and seem like a feature mostly requested by self-important people desperate for status.

if bluesky did a good job of getting orgs and public figures to properly leverage the verifiable domain system, bluesky wouldn’t need blue checkmarks.

Agreed. Truly a disappointing move tbh.
Wasn’t this what Bluesky’s verifiable domain/username system, along with ATProto’s DID provisions, was supposed to solve in the first place?
Not sure what I’m missing, but I can’t help feeling like the switch to the “blue checkmark” is a failure, and a bit of a cop-out, on Bluesky’s part.
