I am a better scholar because I am Creole and I know that not everything is in scholarly books. People can speak for themselves. Praxis is a necessary part of our work.

You need to let us define ourselves. Our anecdotes and ancestry are as valuable (more valuable, even) than your scholarship.

Honorable mention would be “Set a fire” by United Pursuit and Stefanny Gretzinger’s vocals (Bethel, I think)

My cult had their own worship band and music studio and so they have albums like Bethel/Hillsong/IHOP but 🤫

Also we were allowed to listen to Christian rap, so that would be Lecrae 😂

Hahaha
• Freaky? Anything by IHOP KC because they’re thought they were prophesying. Like Misty Edwards has this weird ass prophecy song omg
• Bad dance song? My last year in it, we would really vibe to Hillsong’s “Alive” LIVE
• Weird as shit? “We have the best dad” by Rick Pino

This has also happened to me with Katrina (they weren’t born yet) and the 2012 election (they were five) and 2016–the flood in LA, for example (they were nine).

Every year, the freshmen remember less and less of my “you remember….”
