Also, a very large earthquake may cause a tsunami. Tsunami waves won't have much impact in the deeper parts of the Sound, but can cause dangerous currents, and a lot of damage to the shore. Check out our Boater's Guide for more details and safety tips:

Great question! On a Ferry out at sea, you won't feel the earthquake waves, the damaging waves don't travel through water. But it might be bumpy if you're at the dock. Getting back into the dock could be difficult, too.
