2025 gaming backlog 45 - Pokemon Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon (3DS)

Can't let a year go by without playing a Pokemon game, can I? USUM are fantastic, surprisingly challenging games, but I'm let down a little by the RR postgame and how long it takes to get the new plot moving.

My first 4 Commander decks:

- Tishana was GU Merfolk (my loves); it's now a Thrasios/Tymna Merfolk deck.

- Ghave I kept for a long time but was finally crept out by 2025 Magic. One day I'll rebuild it.

- Tawnos still exists!

- Shanna was a quick idea that didn't pan out 🤷‍♀️

Miri (S1E8)

One I won't be watching again. A creepy, creepy episode. It's got creepy kids as antagonists, chanting creepy playground noises. It's got some creepy post-apocalyptic and disease imagery. And most creepy of all, it's got a fucking gross central line between Kirk and a literal child.
Star Trek: The Original Series (S1E8, "Miri") 4 of the core cast (L-R, Bones, Spock, Rand, Kirk) stand in a disused laboratory. Spock is leaning forward saying "All of the adults on this planet died."

What Are Little Girls Made Of? (S1E7)

Narratively a bit of a duffer and we're 2/2 on evil Kirk but hey ho. In a funny old way, this one felt the most "Star Trek" yet - a first proper redshirt, some philosophical sparring, and extensive styrofoam scenery.

Mudd's Women (S1E6)

Mixed opinions on this one. Mudd's a very fun conman villain, but the content is just not there for me. Space seductresses who take pills because otherwise they're ugly & are just searching for rich husbands feels... well, very 60s.

Temur Tuesday!

Temur's such a weird colour for me - it has some of my favourite cards to cast but also some of the worst and most boring cards in all of Magic (MIIRYM FUCK YOUUU). My pick today is a fun one though because it's a hideously expensive one-sided Show and Tell effect and I _love_ those!

12. Kenya - Machito (1957, latin jazz)

A defining record in Afro-Cuban jazz, I have to confess Kenya was perhaps a bit too fast-paced and energetic for me! Still, there are some absolutely fantastic melodies nestled in there, so still glad I listened to it!

Probably Atraxa - she was my Golos-replacement service for running Gates after my favourite roaming robot boy got banned.

I also wrote about her death in a story that connected her to the other angels of the Multiverse, so I guess I think she's cool!

The full rules aren't finished yet, but the general gist is that players start with a planelocked pDH deck (Ravnica + their plane of origin) and then each month earn EXP to upgrade and update their decks and decide on which plane they're fighting me / The Outsider next

What perfect album came out when you were 16?

Maybe one of the easiest of this kind of question I've ever seen. 2008 was an absolute belter of a year for no skip rock records.

2025 gaming backlog 43 - Detective Grimoire (PC)

A thoroughly enjoyable first entry into the franchise, though it's odd playing it after Tangle Tower. Looks and sounds wonderful and I enjoy the simple mystery at its heart, but the puzzles are a bit limp.

2025 gaming backlog 42 - Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade (GBA)

The first FE to make it to the EU, and one I've wanted to beat for decades. Absolutely excellent story and writing, but good grief is it hard! Definitely a great tactics rpg, and holds up beautifully.
