And the types of needs have changed since 2016 too. For those with EHCPs, there has been a 130 per cent increase in pupils with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) as their primary need, and a 152 per cent increase in students with speech, language and communication needs

The number of pupils with education, health and care plans (EHCPs) has risen dramatically across all school types since 2016. Particularly striking is the 164 per cent rise in state nurseries, where the population has actually decreased 16 per cent over the same period

This year Yorkshire and the Humber had almost 1,000 more entrants into initial teacher training than last. Meanwhile the numbers of entrants in the North East and North West dropped.
