If we’re making lists, I think that the five bullets in CDC’s Pledge to the American People are an excellent place to start.

I have been at the agency for almost 20 years, and have met very few people in public health service who don’t strive for and embody these ideals

The Indigenous People of North America have decided to go back to calling the Gulf of Mexico, “Chalchiuhtlicueyecatl”. It is what the Nahuatl People originally called it as it is the domain of the goddess Chalchiuhtlicue, who is assoc w/water bodies, including the Gulf of Mexico.

I hear there are stories coming, but putting the brakes on our country’s world-leading medical research system feels like a five alarm fire and I don’t see a newspaper that even has it on the front page yet
Shutting down medical research — not just within NIH, but everywhere that’s funded by NIH — will have long-term effects on medicine & short-term effects on state, higher education & hospital budgets. This affects all of us, not just researchers.
The assault on NIH is a test for how the national media covers the Trump admin: Trump is shutting down medical research!

That is easy to communicate. Will they treat it as a 5 alarm fire in a way that forces the government to respond, or will they downplay & caveat it?

The Trump administration appears to have canceled the February meeting of the National Vaccine Advisory Committee. This committee only meets 3 times per year and this would have been the first meeting since September 2024. There is no excuse for this complete attack on science.

Study sections are the review panels that allocate NIH research grants. They bring in experts from around the country and have to be scheduled many months in advance; they provide the funds that keep the nation's biomedical research going.

It's hard to overstate the disruption this causes.
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.
