"Transition, New York, 1969-1976," Ralph Gibson. I loved this image and had it on my wall in the late 70s/80s (clipped from somewhere) til it got lost in a move. Found it again in today's Guardian.

Tooleyhenge: yesterday morning, 5 AM. This only happens during the last few days of May, and the conditions have to be right: clear and sunny. Also, I have to be awake before 5 AM. (Unretouched photo)

55 years ago today since the experience I detailed in my 2011 novella "Near Zennor." Three thirteen year old girls, inexplicable events bordering the Mianus River Gorge in NY. Still have no clue what we saw. (My photo from nearby, not the same site.)

I saw Blue Velvet when it opened in 1986, walked out of the theater & thought, "If he can get a movie like that made, I can get published." Six months later I quit my job. The next year I sold my first story. Lynch's work gave me the courage to make that leap."Why are there people like Frank?" RIP

Maine Frugality 101 c/o my late friend Wally — put orange peels on top of the wood stove. They smell nice & dried they make great fire starters. I put mine in empty cardboard tubes (from toilet paper or paper towels), along with dryer lint. (Please don't send me your dryer lint, not THAT frugal).

Happy birthday, Patti Smith. Found this publicity photo the other day, it had gone walkabout from my copy of Babel back in the 70s.

My brother's happy onion from tonight's dinner. Maybe a little less happy since it went into the jerk chicken but what do I truly know about onions?
