Anyways yeah sorry I guess today was Thinksgiving day for me cause all I been doing is sitting at my laptop and thinking about shit and spewing it out onto my timeline like I just made a giant dinner.
November 28, 2025 at 12:24 PM
decided for me it can't sit at the table. That's stifling and prevents so many people from discovering games. Why you think some game devs have issues with their games being noticed? Cause people will exclude them for the most nothingburger of reasons when it should be held up and celebrated.

If I wanna play a VN I want a game with heavy narrative and minimum gameplay yes, but if I strictly want something with no gameplay at all then I will specify further and say I want to play a kinetic VN. I don't want to miss out on Ai The Somnium Files when I know I'll enjoy it because other people

that can still create games that can be just as unsettling, as moving, or as fun if you give it a chance. So I hate stifling that. Anyways, rant over I think. I think I got out everything that was on my mind.

Because I think a big reason RPGMaker is such a helpful genre definer is because it is on a lower scale graphically than those AAA games, but it's not Hades or Silksong either, its an amalgamation of talented people that maybe don't have the budget, or access to programs, or knowhow on game creation
November 28, 2025 at 12:11 PM
because there is that inherent bias when you talk about horror games. A lot of people outside this niche, when they ask for horror games they're expecting stuff like Silent Hill or Cry of Fear. And that's valid! But I just think this definition helps for people that maybe don't like all horror.
November 28, 2025 at 12:09 PM
IDK I just feel like excluding stuff for it's engine when it has the same soul as everything else on the lists, it's plot, world building, etc fits the vibe to a T, and yet isn't allowed just limits the creative energy that can be made and prevents people from finding the things they might enjoy.

Don't even get me started on how on manga sites like mangadex they don't have a strictly LGBT tag so you have to go through dozens of awkward crossdressing hentai manga when I just wanna find a manga where the character is trans, or its a huge focal point of discussion in the overarching plot.
November 28, 2025 at 12:05 PM
Long Live The Queen where I manage how her life turns out through planning her day out and strategizing with my stats to reach a ton of endings, but you go on the sim tag and it's full of stuff that isn't that. Branding it Princess Maker-like helps, but that's not gonna help when you're on steam.
November 28, 2025 at 12:04 PM
This is also important to why I think game storefronts should have more diversity in their tags. For example to this day theres hard to find LGBT content because the steam page will have horny sex games or like, games that actually have a big focus on it being LGBT. Or Wanting to find sim games like

games that they like because in this day and age searching for shit like this is like looking for a needle in the hay stack. I may not ever wanna play Coffin of Andy and Leyley or be a Mogeko Castle hater but i'm not gonna exclude it from being discussed or discovered by people that can find value.
November 28, 2025 at 11:59 AM
I see some people exclude stuff like deltarune from RPGMaker lists when its got the same vibes, and I think a lot of that comes from its popularity or how some people dislike it so they want to have a rigid definition of what is acceptable and I think that's stifling and prevents people from finding
November 28, 2025 at 11:57 AM
cause like idk putting all this under the indie umbrella really undersells it. Like I wouldn't put Silksong on the same pedestal as I would Omori. If someone wanted an indie game I'd ask "like what indie games you like?" Indie is such a huge genre now I can hardly even call it a genre at this point.
November 28, 2025 at 11:56 AM
game engine you use to make your game. Because RPGMaker was meant to make steriotypical RPGs like Final Fantasy with it and it continues to be branded that way, but a lone person with an idea can just pick it up and make a horror game? That's cool. It's about the uninhibited creative freedom
November 28, 2025 at 11:52 AM
for being in unity is a big shame if you're gonna include pocket mirror when the soul of their DNA is the same. Sure we have gotten updates where stuff like the Pocket Mirror remake was able to be made with relatively little game issues but I always seen the genre as not being held down by the
November 28, 2025 at 11:51 AM
like i cant help but think of stuff like little goody two shoes which was made in unity because they LITERALLY were pushing the extent of RPGMaker when they were making Pocket Mirror, their games graphics were too intensive it caused glitches in stuff like Lisettes area and I think excluding it
November 28, 2025 at 11:49 AM
like pixel horror rpg I would define as this:
a game with a pixel based/2d artstyle that has elements of horror, or is an RPG, that way stuff like 1bh that isn't a horror game still falls under the umbrella because it is still a pixel game rpg.
