🚨 In isolated conditions, exploitation thrives.

A recent investigation in the Financial Times reveals the human rights abuses taking place on board tuna fishing vessels.

Far from support networks and away from the eyes of authorities for years, patterns of exploitation have become systemic.

Sam Dela Cruz, a 25-year-old Filipino fisher who worked on board a Chinese-flagged fishing vessel, died suddenly in Somalia.

By the time his family were informed of his death, it was too late to repatriate his body – he had been buried hastily in Somalia.

🐟 A new investigation from @data.ft.com reveals that major UK retailers are selling tuna linked to exploitation.

Tuna vessels roam the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic Oceans, dominating global tuna catches that end up on our plates. However, migrant crews face brutal and inhumane conditions on board.

#COP30 is an opportunity to change course. It’s time for leaders to:
🤝 Strengthen international collaboration to make real emissions cuts and increase climate funding
🌱 Protect and restore carbon-rich ecosystems
🌎 Integrate Indigenous and local community knowledge into wildfire management
November 13, 2025 at 10:49 AM
Regions with a history of wildfires are facing more intense and severe fire events, while new areas are also having to contend with this threat.

Without urgent global action to address the drivers of this crisis – global heating and unsustainable land use – wildfires will only worsen.
November 13, 2025 at 10:49 AM
Wildfires are on the rise, quickly becoming a global emergency and defining feature of the climate crisis: more frequent, intense and destructive.

During the 2024-2025 fire season, over 100 million people were exposed to wildfires, with at least 200 fatalities directly attributed to these events.
