If I wanted to set things up so the people blame the public sector for the private sector's failings, this is exactly how I'd do it

I liked the post about Airport Behaviour, and I think that Airport Behaviour exists because if you're at the airport for a vacation, then you're wealthy enough to afford a vacation, so you're probably not poor. Everyone at the airport considers themselves a Customer, and acts like it.

You're saying that people shouldn't expect an Obama to save them, but they should also show up on voting day to vote for an Obama who will save them??

That's not just frustrating, it's also confusing.

When people say, "I'm a taxpaying homeowner" they're identifying themselves as a Customer, and they expect their wants to be met, even as the needs of The Staff (renters) are denied. They fully expect homeowners to be treated very differently than renters—and that's what our society does.

The reason that police do not enforce traffic laws, is that most of the people breaking the speed limit are Customers driving from their suburban homes through the neighbourhoods where The Staff live, and the convenience of Customers matters more than the lives of The Staff.

The separation of society into Staff and Customers affects everything from roads, housing, to healthcare.

Black people (classified as Staff) are excluded from white suburbs (which are for Customers), and the highway system is maintained so that Customers can drive to restaurants where Staff work.

The function of ICE is to maintain the distinction between Customers and Staff in the US. The Staff are kept in precarity by the threat of deportation.

The function of the regular police is also the maintenance of the Staff/Customer division.

A social system where some people do all the domestic work, and others sit back and benefit could never be maintained by consent, only by violence.

Conservatives support and even revel in the violence. Liberals support it, but not usually openly until The Staff start discussing justice.

Our social system of staff and customers mirrors the dynamic of masters and servants during the British Empire, and the patriarchal system where in a western household the wife is expected to do all the domestic work, while the husband acts like a customer.

Same system, different labels.

For what it’s worth, parenting has radicalized the shit out of me.

Our society is *so* deeply cruel and neglectful of children. It’s so shameful and so profoundly at the root of all that ails is.

What is "the Gaza issue"?

"withholding your vote"??!

That's how voting is supposed to work—people only vote for politicians who will improve their quality of life.

They don't have one.

We're told we live in a democracy, but all our politicians are liars and we have no way to remove them even after they have proved definitively that they are liars.

It's called democracy, but in actuality it's a system where we consent to be ruled by liars.
