I very recently commented on this very platform that I don't love the Line, which I don't. But I do rather love this piece.

I'm broadly okay with having seven followers, but this is one of those rare occasions when I wish I had more--specifically, more Americans. Because Americans should read this.

Without looking, I’m assuming that Super Mario Bros. (1993) isn’t on here just because it lacked sufficient connection to its source material to be considered a “video game movie”?

I don’t doubt that this is a thing (Christ, I hope it is, as long as the “women-don’t-like-incompetent-men” phenomenon never comes for me) but isn’t part of the “epidemic” supposed to be men forming fewer platonic friendships, particularly with each other?
I'm starting to wonder how much "the male loneliness epidemic" is just straight and bisexual women identifying low-effort, mean, and incompetent men and choosing not to date, marry, and tolerate them anymore

I like watching Nugent-Hopkins in the playoffs because he’s a fine representative for Team Can’t Grow Proper Facial Hair for Some Reason, but he should probably just be clean-shaven during the regular season.

I'm on a bit of a Bruce Cockburn kick, and my favourite fact learned from it is from the Wikipedia article for "If I Had a Rocket Launcher":

"During their Maybe You Should Drive tour, Barenaked Ladies often inserted the "some son-of-a-bitch would die" lyric into their own song "If I Had $1000000"."

Conversely, if they’d said it, my reaction would probably be that they made a good point, so I’m trying (though not that hard) to be fair about this.
Is Biden or Obama said that they had to rename American football because of soccer, the outrage coverage would be 24/7 for many months, with demands of public apologies.

Trump is, in fairness, doing everything he can to ensure they don’t exist in the same universe.
Congratulations FIFA on producing the World's most idiotic participation ribbon.
Trump and peace don't belong in the same universe, let alone sentence.

(Re: Alex Karp)

I get it, but also if these guys were otherwise cool instead of being just awful, the inability-to-visibly-take-care-of-themselves thing would probably be kind of charming.
i kind of hate how much these guys can’t be bothered to dress themselves well or even visibly take care of themselves

Wasn't Clancy's daughter posting here a while back about what a shithead he was, or am I misremembering?
Btw, I used to work with Tom Clancy and he used to refer to Muslims as “ragheads”. He was a real peach. 😒

Presidential pardons seem pretty weird to my Canadian mind as it is, but it completely blows the said mind that the president apparently doesn’t even have to name they people being pardoned, and can just gesture vaguely towards a cluster of criminals.
Trump may have accidentally pardoned the pipe bomb guy?

I was just appreciating the greatness of the Tragically Hip’s line, from Fireworks, “You said you didn’t give a fuck about hockey / well I never saw someone say that before” so, for no particular reason, I googled it (probably hoping to find pages expressing awe at its greatness?).

Anyway…

I somewhat agree with the original post (about overuse of “fascism” depriving it of meaning when it’s really needed, around, say, right now), but *emphatically* agree with this one.
Thanks for saying this. “Treason” is another term we’ve so abused that it’s lost its power. No, PP has not committed treason by refusing a security clearance. OTOH, We may well be witnessing treasonous acts from the White House, but the accusation wont have the power it deserves.
