Burmila, 47, lives in a normal house in North Carolina uninhabited by wild animals - just two dogs. His table holds a copy of The People’s Almanac 2 next to a second copy of The People’s Almanac 2.
Prompt: if you had to performatively display two books that you wanted the NYT writer profiling you about your career ending scandal to notice, what would they be?

I’ve always described Bari Weiss as someone wearing a journalist costume to a Halloween party which is only unfair inasmuch as that describes like 90% of the people at the top of the field now.
Nuzzi, like TCW, exists as a kind of simulacrum of the midcentury public intellectual. Not even ripping off the writers of that era, but imitating a sort of half-remembered, half-invented idea of what those writers were sort of like and what their general vibe was.

It’s funny that the guy who made the icons on his campaign website his naval rank wants to talk about how Democrats were too into identity
Speaking at a Texas Tribune Festival on Friday, former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg criticized the Democratic Party for failing to reach everyday Americans, arguing that it “got sucked in” to a conversation about identity. #TribFest25
Pete Buttigieg critiques Democrats for focus on identity
The former U.S. transportation secretary said the Democratic Party should focus more on issues gripping the country, such as health care and housing affordability.

The great thing about this is that you know there are 50 people around him trying various strategies they recall from parenting a toddler or training a puppy to get him to stop bringing up Epstein, and none of it is working. Right now they're baking him an Optimus Prime cake and hoping for the best.
he’s crashing out

"This is definitely the first instance of one President blowing another President!" the curators of the presidential libraries of Millard Fillmore and Franklin Pierce exclaim a little too loudly, almost in unison.

The people who built the tech destroying society are antisocial weirdos, which is why their products are socially corrosive. But as tools have advanced, incidental pro-social functions (Facebook as Rolodex, Twitter as news hub) have decayed and it’s just “you consume slop, you talk to computer” etc.
Nightmarish idea for a startup tbh

people: hello Ed nice to meet you

me: when the "Blue Marble" photo was taken the astronauts were upside down and the photo had Antarctica at the top so NASA inverted it before its release so people wouldn't think it was a different planet.

The persuasiveness of this argument depends entirely on people being completely ignorant of anything that has been published in the New York Times at any point in the last 20 years.

Like all elites when the unwashed have the temerity to call them out, they talk to us like we’re stupid.
The emails that you’re seeing now are news in themselves, but that’s because of how they’re coming out—a congressional committee released them—& the context in which they’re being viewed. A guy emailing a reporter talking about old girlfriends or saying someone is “dirty” is not a whole news story.

Filing for major party primaries closed in Arkansas yesterday. Of the eight statewide races, Democrats filed to run in three. The Dems bailed on running for Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Auditor, Treasurer, and Land Commissioner.

One thing I think we will collectively revisit if we're ever able to catch our breath is how Trump was convicted of a bunch of crimes but because he was a guy a lot of people backed he was just allowed to walk out of there with no follow up.
