🚨Omnibus I Political agreement

Early this morning, EU institutions reached a political agreement that marks a turning point:
👉 The first rollback of an adopted due diligence law in history
👉 The first major file pushed through via an EPP–far right alliance

🗞️ #CSDDD update
EU Parliament rejects the JURI Committee’s Omnibus I position

This makes one thing clear: political blackmail has no place in EU decision making

👉This rejection reopens space for pro-EU forces to find common ground, not let climate deniers & corporate lobbies dictate the outcome

The EU Green Deal is not just policy, it’s a lifeline

As climate catastrophes multiply, we cannot weaken rules for companies to reduce emissions. Accountability & ambition must guide Europe’s just transition.

We are saying it loud: from Maastricht to Brussels from 21-23 Sept #BackToTheFuture march

📰NEWS

We have @ec.europa.eu's answer to watchdog's inquiry into undemocratic Omnibus process

🗨️"Stripping back accountability rules at a time of climate & social crises is indefensible, it puts corporate profits above people’s rights & EU’s climate objectives"

4🧵It's not just policymakers, also business

Oil & gas companies are attacking the #CSDDD cause obliges big companies operating in the EU to adopt & implement mandatory climate transition plans

No wonder they hate the law — it finally makes climate action enforceable

3🧵This political decision is part of the Omnibus deregulation wave killing core elements of the EU Green Deal.

Corporate promises don’t deliver.
➡️Only 28% of Europe’s 280 biggest companies have science-based net-zero targets
➡️21 promised climate targets — & did nothing

In Brussels, the sun is burning so much that even the Atomium was closed due to the extreme heat.

Yes, the climate crisis is accelerating.

Yet in the EU's capital, we’re watching climate accountability being gutted in real time.

🧵Why are EU policymakers gutting climate transition plans?

After 8NGOs filed a complaint, the EU watchdog has decided to investigate the EU Commission over the flawed lawmaking process on the Omnibus Package.

We are clear: it is not simplification, but full-scale deregulation designed to dismantle corporate accountability & abandon #GreenDeal commitments.

📰 NEWS All eyes are on the #Omnibus simplification proposal now - including the EU Ombudsman’s.

The Commission broke its own rules. BUT today's Ombudsman’s inquiry is a chance to hit pause and rethink.

The @europarl.europa.eu just hit pause on corporate accountability.

We say: justice delayed, justice denied. #NoToOmnibus

By delaying sustainability laws, the EU is giving polluters & exploiters more time to act w/impunity. Meanwhile, responsible businesses & affected communities are left in limbo
April 3, 2025 at 12:00 PM
No, it’s not an April fool. The @europarl.europa.eu just approved an urgent procedure to handle the “stop-the-clock” proposal—limiting debate & expert input.

The real urgency is the climate crisis & human rights—not cutting corners on democracy.
EU sustainability laws are not red tape #NoToOmnibus

The Commission claims #Omnibus is based on “reality checks”. But whose reality is being considered?

We spoke w/Nick Omonuk, Ugandan climate justice activist who knows the cost of deregulation—& why the EU must uphold not dismantle, corporate accountability laws

Today 360+ civil society & trade unions worldwide are urging @europarl.europa.eu & @consilium.europa.eu to say:
📢No to weakening the #CSDDD
📢No to corporate impunity
📢 #NoToOmnibus

If #Omnibus adopted, it would turn corporate due diligence into an empty shell

Confused w/#Omnibus?

Check out our takeaways on what it means for corporate accountability & what’s at stake:

▫️Value chain obligations: limited scope & impact
▫️Climate plans: from action to paperwork
▫️Penalties: a weakened accountability framework

The Commissions proposes to restrict #DueDiligence to just direct suppliers, so that companies would have no obligation to identify risks & potential harms beyond their immediate contracts.

But it's towards the bottom of supply chains were most #HumanRights & envi abuses widely happen

Now that the #Omnibus proposal out, what's at stake?

A betrayal to those who the CSDDD aimed to protect
The message by the Commission: time to turn a blind eye to forced labour, land grabs & envi devastation—leaving victims powerless while corporations walk free

The cost of CSDDD compliance is a pittance in comparison

The financial cost of complying with the #CSDDD – as estimated by the European Commission – would represent only 0.13% of the average shareholder payouts made in 2023.

The @ec.europa.eu is about to announce its much-anticipated #Omnibus package on sustainability, a sweeping deregulation initiative targeting the #CSDDD, #CSRD & the #EUTaxonomy

The EU calls closed-door consultation meetings w/lobbyists a "reality check"

But the real reality check is what happens when corporate impunity goes unchecked. Today, our trade union leader @kalpona.bsky.social tell us firsthand what corporate abuse means

🚨 Back to protest mode

Tomorrow, @ec.europa.eu will announce #Omnibus, but we've seen the leaked text: it's a direct assault on the EU sustainability framework & dramatic for the #CSDDD

It's not simplification, but full-scale deregulation designed to dismantle corporate accountability

The #Omnibus is a sucker punch for workers, communities and all those victims of corporate abuse.

Remember devastating Brumadinho case? It represents a systematic failure of impunity.

This is the real reality check—& why we need #CSDDD to stop corporate abuses.

More than ever, we say #NoToOmnibus
February 24, 2025 at 12:45 PM
Let’s call it what it is: #Omnibus is a reality check for corporate power, not for people or the planet.

In today's World Day of #SocialJustice, remember the major oil spill in Peru, 2022.

This tragedy is a real reality check—& why we need the #CSDDD to stop corporate abuses.

We say #NoToOmnibus

The EU calls closed-door meetings w/lobbyists a "reality check." But the #Omnibus serves corporate power, not people

Remember the fire in the textile factory in 2012? This is the real reality check—& why we need #CSDDD to stop corporate abuses

The @ec.europa.eu is ignoring its own Better Regulation rules to fast-track its deregulation agenda.

➕Who was at the #Omnibus consultation?
Businesses accused of corporate abuses, carbon bombs & envi allegations
➖Who was out? Workers, communities & victims
