through Friday, December 12, we will be collecting new, unwrapped toys suitable for children aged 3 months to 17 years old.

The toys you contribute will be delivered to Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen in Chelsea, New York City’s largest emergency food program.

Thank you to Andra for sharing this neighborhood treasure. As someone committed to a healthier planet, I’m proud our district has planted nearly 1,000 new street trees, expanded tree beds, launched Green in Between, piloted potted trees, and passed NYC’s first Urban Forest Master Plan.

One line from the 1959 letter says it all: “We have already raised enough money for eight of these trees. We need your cooperation and help to raise the balance.” Block by block, tree by tree, neighbors came together to green their street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues.
