So my team was willing to fight and pay for the league’s biggest star (fight me idc) and she WANTS TO STAY and the league said no. It wants to be a feeder league for Chelsea and Lyon and Barca. Wow.
NEW: The Spirit came up with a multi-million dollar offer to keep Trinity Rodman in the league, which she was ready to accept. It was vetoed by NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman, according to sources.

Where's it leave negotiations? Great question. www.nytimes.com/athletic/686...

people, you have the chance to put my book ahead of Olivia Nuzzi’s on the bestseller list. put aside all other considerations and think how objectively funny this would be. #1, that Mountain Goats guy. #2, Antivax Man Has My Heart. funniest list of the century. We can do this if we try

I’m so hopeful about this hire, Carter has been such a refreshing presence in her defense of queer, black, and international players 🙏
Spirit didn’t give a great response to Eddy’s attacks but Carter has been outspoken in her defense of Banda and other African players in the league and her hiring gives me some confidence in our FO’s beliefs.

Our city has been under occupation, we’re just coming out of a government shutdown, our team just lost the championship two years in a row and our star player’s future is uncertain. We deserve a day of happy posting about this (and we probably aren’t posting hard enough tbh).

There's a lot in Jeff's article about the situation with Trin, which is important, but we mustn't forget that Haley vociferously defended Banda and Chilufya after the right came after them last year. Having someone like that leading our team will be so important.

The contract “requires that if AI technology is used for ‘newsgathering’ that it meet Politico’s ‘standards of journalists ethics and involve human oversight.’”

That was apparently violated.

a good reason to prioritize @51st.news over bigger and more prominent publications is that they actually give coverage to one of our most vibrant (figuratively and literally, neon yellow) sports teams vs pretending like 20k people didn’t break the noise barrier at Audi last week lol

A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.
