I have a memory of him, when we re-staged The Mysteries in 2000, writing an article for the Telegraph bemoaning the lunchtime closure of the backstage bar at the National, as ‘that was where all the good work got done.’

At least four of these have opened around us recently - I’d presumed it was money laundering (which I guess it might also be).
