I have the GREEN LANTERN/STAR TREK and LEGION OF SUPERHEROES/STAR TREK crossovers, and they're pretty good too!

I really dig it when DC was doing the weird crossovers with other franchises (I'm glad I got the DARK HORSE crossover TPBs they did!).

The ALL-STAR WESTERN era is a bit more commercial in it's aesthetic, but Moritat brings a distinctly European sensibility married to a subtle manga influence (along with some great colors that gives it a monochromatic, borderline black and white, look that feels very pulpy).

Yesterday I was VERY fortunate to find the JONAH HEX: ALL-STAR WESTERN by Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray, and Moritat (among others) at BMV for $75...AND 10% off at their Black Friday Sale! :D

I REALLY wanted this. : |

I'm hoping DC does the previous run in omnibuses as well.

It's fine. I can get it later if I see it cheap...if I think it's worth it.

I really like FIRST BLOOD, which is much more of a FILM than a movie, but I enjoyed the maximalist cinema of the two sequels, though I think that I liked RAMBO III more, because it felt like a prototype for METAL GEAR SOLID
November 29, 2025 at 1:55 PM
I got the other RAMBO films recently...in 4K.

I...sort of fucked up when I bought this, because I forgot I wanted it in 4K. It was like 10 bucks, so I just grabbed it because I haven't seen it used in YEARS, and then remembered that it HAD a 4K release after. ^___^;;;

Whoops!
November 29, 2025 at 1:52 PM
I've admittedly never seen THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS (1982), but I've HEARD about it for years, and...fuck...who doesn't want to see a musical about respecting sex workers starring Dolly Parton, Burt Reynolds, and Dom DeLuise? @___@

I mean...c'mon! That's a slam dunk!
November 29, 2025 at 1:47 PM
Now, 48HRS/ANOTHER 48HRS...this is actually an upgrade for me, because I have the PARAMOUNT PRESENTS blu-rays, where were EXCELLENT, but I fucking LOVE these films and this set was pretty cheap at Bay Street Video (and maybe OOP everywhere else?).

Few films look BETTER than a Walter Hill film to me
November 29, 2025 at 1:38 PM
This may be an unpopular opinion, but this is actually the LEAST of these films to me.

It's technically impressive...but not more so than DEAD RECKONING, which had possibly the most spectacular set pieces of the franchise, and several of the previous films had better scripts.

This was BLOATED.
November 29, 2025 at 1:29 PM
A couple of things from yesterday...and a couple more tomorrow that I'll write about when they arrive!

From PARAMOUNT Pictures MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - FINAL RECKONING (2025) & 48HRS/ANOTHER 48HRS on 4K. From KINO LORBER, THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS (1982). From LIONSGATE, RAMBO (2008).

@stacyking.bsky.social I watched the first episode of HEATED RIVALRY at Wheeler's last night, and I think this might be your jam...or maybe not?

it's basically YURI! ON ICE with hockey, about two rival hockey players who have a tense sexual relationship in secret.

It is VERY EXPLICIT! O___O

You've never seen him in BLUE MOUNTAIN STATE! He's Booster Gold as FUCK!
November 27, 2025 at 10:06 AM
Like THE ODYSSEY.

...

HOLY SHIT, RYAN REYNOLDS WAS IN THE ODYSSEY!?!?!
November 27, 2025 at 1:11 AM
I think that CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON (2000) may have actually been my first Wuxia film...I'd certainly seen some Hong Kong movies before this, but most of these were more modern action imports to the North American audience, while CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON was truly a Wuxia film.

TIMECOP (1994) is something I definitely saw when I was 14, but I don't have many clear memories of it, other than the famous scene where Van Damme does the splits.

I DO know that it's a well regarded film, and considered one of Van Damme's best.

I also know that it was directed by Peter Hyams...
November 27, 2025 at 12:48 AM
Amazon has fucking sucks in Canada for a few years now and there are no good deals especially on physical media, but I did get two things.

From SHOUT! Factory, TIME COP (1994) on 4K, and from SONY Pictures, CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON (2000) on 4K.

Thoughts follow below, as usual!

I'm a big fan of stories about stories, and this has some really neat meta element to it, as well as some just AMAZING design!

The pendant gives Duck the power to transform into the beautiful swan, Princess Tutu, as she tries to return the pieces of the Prince's heart to him, but she is opposed by Princess Kraehe, who also seeks the Prince's heart...but they are all puppets dancing for the storyteller, Drosselmeyer.
November 26, 2025 at 2:13 AM
It's about a girl name Duck...who is actually a duck turned into a girl by a strange man who gives her a magic pendant when she falls in love with a Prince whose heart is shattered into a several pieces by the Raven King, after he spurns his daughter, Princess Kraehe.

One of my favorite examples of this is Tanikaze X Tsumugi in KNIGHTS OF SIDONIA.

Share a 90s movie you think deserves more love.

THE GRIFTERS (1990).

Just watched this last night, and it does NOT play out thd way you think at ALL.

I can see why Scorsese got involved in this as a producer. This is very much his jam.

Angelica Houston...oh my GOD. @___@

Has she ever been CUNTIER than in THE GRIFTERS? It does not seem likely.
November 24, 2025 at 1:18 AM
Time to watch THE GRIFTERS (1990) for the first time!

I've never heard of this film, but I blind bought the Criterion 4K which I found at BMV based on the strength of the reviews, and because John Cussack is one of my all time favorite actors. Also...Angelica Houston is just BEAUTIFUL in everything
