#HillfortsSunday 🤔😉

It was great chatting to Derek Brockway about the #hillforts of Lampeter for BBC Wales' Children in Need 🛖

You can watch again on catch up from 28:00 minutes in!

#StandingStoneSunday The mighty Devil's Chair entrance stone at Avebury henge, Wiltshire. One of a handful of original stones that was never toppled by villagers

Coming from west Wales, the enormous scale of this monument & its megaliths is always a shock to the system 🤯

As another autumn storm rages, here is the gaunt skeleton of the impressive Cornish engine house at Bottalack Tin Mine, St Just, #Cornwall, in a brief weather window last week. Quite a view!

What's that? 🤔

You wanted an isolated Cornish boulder shaped like a dog's head? Of course.. 😊🐶

Grateful for a break in the weather to carry out a priority #UAV survey for Cadw at an industrial site this morning in Ceredigion: a former silver-lead mine

These are the storm seas which protected the inner fort from the mainland last week 🌊🌊 - pretty wild!

We've all made it through the week to another #HillfortsWednesday 🥳

The supremely strong gate into Trevelgue Head defended promontory islet, Newquay, Cornwall 😮- a bridge was always necessary to cross the raging tides below

The fort enclosed a massive barrow & metal ores

#TombTuesday A fitting place for the dead 💀: an early Bronze Age cairn- possibly the furthest west on the British mainland - sited close to the sea on Mayon Cliff above Sennen, West Penwith, Cornwall

Built of massive boulders, the central cist has long been disturbed & exposed

#StandingStoneSunday chancing across the Merry Maidens stone circle in West Penwith, #Cornwall, as we dropped down to Newlyn was a real delight.

Heaven knows how this perfect circle has survived 4500 years of landscape change since the Late Neolithic/early Bronze Age 🥰

#HillfortsFriday 🧐🤔

The enormous & majestic Treryn Dinas coastal promontory fort, West Penwith, Cornwall 🤩, seen with a dawn sun rising through cloud.

St Michael's Mount nr Penzance

Diodorus Siculus (60-30BC); ‘The inhabitants of Britain who live on the promontory called Belerion [Cornwall] are friendly to strangers.. they work the tin… and convey it to an island.. called Ictis… (where) the merchants buy the tin from the natives

Lou Barker facing the majestic cliff castle of Gurnard's Head, west Penwith, #Cornwall. The far end is crowded with houses & dominated by a towering outcrop ⛰️😮

#TombTuesday one of the mighty (they are huge!) coastal barrows dominating the north coast of Cornwall at Newquay

This one was enclosed - & no doubt revered - by Trevelgue Head coastal promontory fort, while several others stand nearby. A number were lost during C19th improvements 😟

It's #StandingStoneSunday 🥳 The triple stone alignment of Harold's Stones, Trellech, is depicted as a relief carving on Lady Probert's sundial of 1689, now in the local church

This shows the stones have barely changed in 3 centuries 😮

A week ago, climbing to the summit of Pen y Pass below Snowdon on the 41st Marathon Eryri. Hugely enjoyable, but I'm very glad I don't have to run 26.2 miles again this morning! 😄🫣

No doubt I'll be back next year 🤞
