Having played the 3DS version prior, I've been meaning to play the original version of Dragon Quest VII for a while. I both wanted a refresher before Reimagined & to experience DQ7 as is. I just ... soaked it in. It's a very unique flavor of JRPG; there's not much like it.

The 'bigger and more everything' approach works better for Dragon Quest 2. It practically feels like a brand new game - the first in the trilogy with written characters who interact with each other - and now situated as a finale. Some rough spots, but 👍.

Taking the first Dragon Quest and reframing it was probably inevitably going to be a little bit weird. An enjoyable take on a genre-defining classic, still, I can't help but miss the concise and prototypical nature of the original. An interesting remix of sorts.

Sorry if this is a bit sappy or even a little big-headed but comments like these, for a site run completely in our spare time, make it worthwhile.

I'm more of a Tactics Ogre guy at heart, but I think FFT is more of a 'must play' for both its storytelling & gameplay systems that have practically become genre staples. I don't even like the phrase 'must play', but FFT is at least close to that.

Like Rings of Fate, not a bad game, but it doesn't work quite as well as a single-player game. Some of the dungeons are a little too puzzle-happy, and they get a little repetitive.
Sherlotta's a pretty tragic character, huh?

Read my review. Sometimes disappointing games leave behind a bad taste, but Towa just bummed me out. I really wanted to like it. Great presentation, and I enjoyed the NPCs, but several parts feel underbaked or even a bit tedious.

Felt like replaying this before the sequel. I feel like I enjoyed this game more than most, even if it's quite conservative in scope. Really curious to see how they expand on this foundation.
Oh, and the Eridanos twist still kinda pisses me off, lol.

Decided to do a replay for no real reason. Everything about the game's tone and style is super charming, of course, but I don't think I like very much about actually playing the game itself.
