Oh goodness, my sister said to me one time (when I did an ill-advised (with hindsight) post-doc with a programming theme) that it would have been quicker for a programmer to learn geology than for me to learn programming. Point of the PD was to see if the system could be used by non-specialists.

Have a listen to the PlanetGeo podcast episodes on 'It's a good time to be a geologist' - they bring up some interesting points.

Named after Andalucia, in error - type specimens came from Guadalajara, apparently! Congrats on the series BTW!

Ugh, and it's not even just engineers - I'd an academic project lead who used all the sporting buzzwords (generally rugby) he could while leading a big EU project. I always felt it was a bit exclusionary.

I'm afraid that as an Irish person I read 'Tepublican' as an Irish pronunciation of 'The Publican' (some areas of Ireland drop the 'h' in 'th') & see a man pulling pints, wiping spilt beer off a counter, cleaning up dregs. My reading is of no relevance whatsoever, but then the original isn't either.

Ah, makes sense

I'm afraid I can't help you with any information, but those are beautiful! Are they paving or cladding stones?

Sabaoth Burke here - right at the top of the list of S names. I'm guessing it doesn't sound too far off some people's pronunciation of my real name anyway :D. It might also be a name used for God. I did notice a 'Salimis' further down the list, which sounds tasty, but it's a place name.

Wow, well done, it doesn't seem that long ago you were wondering about running outdoors! I've been dismal with running recently, but the cold weather could definitely tempt me out (I did a brisk walk this evening and it was lovely!)

My 13yo is in 1st year in the Meánscoil here and her form classes are all named after letters (A-F) and trees - she's in Fuinseog. It's the first year of 6 classes in 1st year so no other Fuinseog to look up too. I don't know about the other classes.

I was one of the people who downloaded it, and having read through it, it's full of hope and 'can-do' - we're in an apt but have a big old pot outside with marjoram, mint & thyme: one little haven. Luckily I'm not a tidier :D. Thanks for the guide, hoping to build soon, native hedging planned!

I learned that song years ago at an Irish-language singing class here in Galway, never knew where it was about (we were probably told but my Irish wasn't very good!) Thanks!

Cycled into work in the rain earlier, got home in the dry. Was bone dry getting in though thanks to a Galibier Courcheval rain jacket (local business plug!) and Decathlon's cycle-commuting overtrousers, with built in shoe covers. Not even too sweaty!

I've one child, and I can't imagine what it would have been like to have had to be back in work almost immediately after her birth (neither of us had had an easy time). I had 26 weeks paid, and 16 weeks unpaid here in Ireland. My OH got 2 weeks too.
