By that point the govt had already allowed things to get too far—never really punishing him for the Putsch and then allowing him to have basically his own paramilitary force even before becoming chancellor.

Hitler’s ascent to power within the government didn’t happen overnight, but once he was made Chancellor he moved quickly to consolidate power. From this side of things, it seems ludicrous that the Weimar government thought they could control him by giving him power at any level.

Political pundits often say that it's bad politics to criticize voters (e.g., how Republicans still to this day complain about Hillary's "deplorables" comment). At some point, though, voters who support this stuff need to be told to grow up.

It's completely insane that they would somehow appeal to Jesus in support of a militaristic Empire when Jesus was literally murdered by a militaristic Empire because his was a kingdom "not of this world."
