Newcastle Port now closed to coal ships! Wish we had drone footage of 5 Nannas in a tinny breaching 100m exclusion zone in an ‘exciting back &forth with police boats’. (Observers report). No arrests. Harbour authorities closed the port to coal ships. @risingtideaus.bsky.social

This is civil disobedience‼️ We've asked 'nicely' for decades. Disobeying institutions that abuse power to deliberately harm those less powerful is a vital tenant of a healthy democracy. There is still time to join is at #RisingTide 👇🏽

Indicators the number of dogs you own should be zero-1. You don’t want to pick up/dispose of your dogs excrement. 2. You don’t believe a dog requires daily exercise. 3. Your way of dealing w your dogs ongoing barking in your backyard is to yell “Shut up!” at your pet through a sliding glass door.

Isnt it ironic.

This govt squanders billions of our taxes on multi lane highways. Supposedly to"improve traffic flow"...

...and a couple of $10K cars can take out all movement for best part of a day.

Maybe those billions should be invested in rebuilding our rail network & more public transport?

Minimum parking requirements create financially insolvent land use patterns.

The two apartment buildings on the right generate six times more in property taxes than the big box store on the left, while occupying almost half the space!

Proud parent moment as child got an award last night for her science project on microplastics. This came about bc of a passionate science teacher at her public school. So while Australia continues to vastly underfund public education, it still produces these results in large part bc of the staff.

In spite of some recent improvements to public & active transport in Sydney, it’s really difficult to ignore the massive blight that is car dependency overwhelming everything else. Even a public transport hub like the downtown still has given over massive amounts of space to cars and parking.

Push bike riders being passed by ebikes making comments like “Cheating!” and “It’s not a race!” are not helpful.

I’m just trying to get to work on time dudes, so neither of those comments are helpful. Try something positive next time. All cyclists deserve credit for taking a car off the road.

Then:

Yes, HID headlights are very bright but the bigger problem is the proliferation of gargantuan vehicles with 5’+ hood heights so that if you’re driving a normal sized car their headlights are at your eye level rather than seat level like they’re supposed to be.

Last week I wrote an open letter, sent to my MP and picked up the local paper, saying nothing more complicated than remember people riding bikes are still people going about their day.

It got plenty of support, but some comments on that basic idea are wild.

It's that time of year when Americans set up quaint, walkable Christmas villages in their living rooms, dreaming of living in such a cozy place.

Meanwhile, they'll show up to city council meetings to fiercely oppose any plan that would actually build that kind of car-lite community in real life.

Maybe thats why pedestrian death rates have increased
