I had some gaps in my understanding of SSE even though I've been reaching for it a lot recently. Wanted to close those and thought it might be helpful to share my new understanding.
Misunderstanding SSE
On my path of practicing simple software my existing understanding of systems, protocols and tools are challenged. My mental model for SSE (Server Sent Events) was a way to keep a connection open and send updates to the client from the server. Broadly this is correct, but read on as I break down what SSE actually is to see why you may be underutilizing SSE in your applications.

Wrote some thoughts about pure UI/ui = fn(state) after spending some time with http://data-star.dev. If you've been feeling modern frontend dev has felt overly complex and the juice isn't worth the squeeze then check this out.
ui = fn(state) done right
If "ui = fn(state)" has ever resonated with you as a frontend developer you owe it to yourself to consider we as an industry have been going about it all wrong for years.
Likely your state already lives on the backend and by syncing it to the frontend to render UI we're adding measurable amounts of unnecessary complexity. If you're to radically simplify if you development environments and production deployments then read on…

- Creating minimal reproductions when encountering bugs with 3rd party libs
- Synthesizing curated articles and producing "best practices" docs in the codebase
- Bake off that iterates through 3-4 approaches to defined problem and goal w/ summary
