It sounds like his Methodist lady-friend dumped him or something based on the bit about "good wives"

The same is true in science, btw. Often the "brand new exciting science" articles in newspapers cover science that is anything but.

The sent around a staff "engagement survey" the day after having an all staff briefing about this. I can only imagine the sort of feedback they got on what was meant to be a general survey about job satisfaction.

Well, if you kill the nickel either the dime or the quarter has to go too, otherwise it won't always be possible to make change.

It's effectively a 10.9% pay cut. And it's absolutely a violation of our contract.

Modern versions of the same that I know of are an eye (i.e. the blue glass eye symbol popular in Greece and Turkey) and an eye within a hand (the Hamsa of Jewish and Arab culture). A Hamsa might vaguely suggest anatomy apart from the hand, but both have an eye against The Eye as the main idea.

I did vote today, but with very mixed feelings. Are we actually going to stay united this time and win? Or is the union as divided and dysfunctional as during the last strike?

If you want to see a Green Wall, look at the border of China and Mongolia on Google Earth. Let's just say China isn't the green one.

Arguably Andorra still is a theocracy, with a Prince-Bishop as co-president.

I feel those sorts of legends are fairly common regarding impressive Medieval architectural feats. I remember the cathedral in Metz boasting a legend that the architect bought the plans from the devil and is therefore buried in the wall (I guess the devil could only get him in the ground).
