Looks like Polistes exclamans with the red thorax and reddish-brown mark on the face. Whereabouts are you? A bit late in the year for them to be out and about up here.

The locomotives and diesel-hydraulic railcars on the Pikes Peak Cog Railway in Colorado, USA are Swiss-built. Third photo resembles them a bit.

Occasionally saw the CP units that were used for filming after they'd been painted back, but left with the "tiger stripe" plows. Of course I blew my only good opportunity to get one leading.

As a Midwesterner, I somewhat resent being lumped in with the "Great Plains Federation." Tell me I live in the Plains when I'm driving 15 hours just to get in position for every storm chase.
