I don't disagree that Polanski's has made some clever moves, and has explained them well to the media.

But in the end, he's basically in the right place at the right time...

Mind you, 5 Star WAS very successful for a few years. Arguably, they shrunk precisely because they couldn't survive contact with reality (and governing with everybody and anybody)

Nothing says "bottom-up democracy" like the sight of a party in which experienced political representatives are marginalised and the chances of pushing back against the Labour machine (or an operator like Farage) depend on a wing and a prayer.

Well, good luck with that.

Within the League itself, being overtaken would strengthen the hand of the old federalist guard & provide further proof that the new course spearheaded by the deputy leader General Vannacci is leading the party nowhere in electoral terms.

However, he's felt trapped & marginalised since govt was sworn in, so every further sign that Meloni keeps growing at his expense will push him towards differentiating himself within governing alliance & becoming more difficult on issues that define his party (law and order, migration, taxes).

Meloni is safe - Salvini isn't crazy enough to try and bring her down, since his own electorate and party reps would refuse to follow him.

This is the best govt they can hope to have in present circumstances, and they know it.

Why does it matter? Because of possible repercussions on relationship between two parties at national level.

Expect to see much more of this from the radical right and their imitators in months to come. The correctness and authenticity of their beliefs somehow proven by their "personal story"...
