Good jazz, good dogs, good food, some nature photography, and the world can be a pretty damned nice place.
You're not alone. Ick.

I know someone that’s getting a kitty shoehorn for Christmas.

Come on down. We’re watching a game.

My mother told me never to eat things that were prepared the same way as firewood. Was she wrong?

This checks out.😀

Where should I send the industrial insulin pump?

Larson is nuts. One of my favorites. I’ve got his entire collection in a book I keep next to Calvin and Hobbes. Im always surprised when I run into someone who consistently does understand his humor. (Hi mom!)

I had surmised Woody and Red; Doug stood out as a totally bland random name. I like my version better!

Man... dachshunds are dachshunds. I've got two that do that very same thing.

Now THAT's a hobby!

"Doug". 😆

Yeah, but THAT? That was just fun!

We haven't "catted" in about 30 years here. I like 'em, but, yeah, this is a thing with these knucklheads. To say nothing of one of these guys going after your toes under the covers while you're sleeping!

If you like horror, Chuck Wendig: Wanderers or Black River Orchard. Both dark and creepy fun. Murderbot series, from Martha Wells has been light and fun on the couple I've read. Older, Larry Niven's Escape From Hell, retelling of Dante's Inferno is great. He updates Hell's inhabitants.

I just rewatched the drawer shaking vid, and just noticed the potato masher that started this conversation a couple weeks ago actually made a brief appearance!

Die Hard, is of course, the quintessential Christmas movie. (Mrs. Rick has other opinions...). I'm unfamiliar with Hogfather, but it appears I may need to broaden my horizons again.
November 22, 2025 at 2:28 AM
That is correct. I've wrapped up the Old Man's War series, now moving on to the Lock in Series. Between that, the Murderbot series and a handful of non-fiction stuff, my to-read list has gotten out of hand, but it's a great distraction from the daily gack from the rest of the world.

I'm looking forward to more in the series. That was a fun read, but I was balancing it out with the Locked In series, so it took a bit longer than it should have.

Condolences. I've got a dachshund that has now eaten two favorite pairs of expensive boots. An otherwise exemplary doggo. Considering my options for early taxidermy; so far he's still on the winning side.

Mmmmm. Rather inauspicious that it's also World Toilet Day. Curious who arranges the official World Calendar of Noteworthy Things.
