Not to this extent. It's not just the media that has changed, Trump clearly runs the Presidency as a reality TV show - there always has to be something new to keep the punters watching. He shows zero interest in the actual job of governing.

I think the Cass report and the Supreme Court judgement thankfully broke the spell. The Labour party finally woke up to the fact that it had been duped. All we need is Zak Polanski to wake up too.

Populism is on the rise, and the centre collapsing, because all major parties allied themselves with neoliberalism from the 1980s onwards - a project designed to surrender the country to private capital and leave ordinary people behind. In addition, Labour focused on the middle class and minorities
