All of this to say: people are coming down extemely hard on the question of how the NYT as a whole has handled the Epstein question has less (though not nothing!) to do with Epstein and more to do with a general loss of trust in the paper in general

Btw while he's here can I just say thank you to @pymundgenealogy.bsky.social because of whom I think I understand the Haredi worldview a /lot/ better than I did before I knew him. It is a far more complex relationship to these things than people outside the community are usually willing to recognise

I'm not saying you should adopt the Haredi view on basically anything but the somewhat core difference between most Haredim and NK is that NK has in fact literally shook hands with Ahmadinejad at a Holocaust denial conference

you'll see people go like "they still believe in a jewish state, they just think that one can't come until the messianic age" and if that were the only thing "wrong" with them that would be so minor that it's basically not worth mentioning lol.

It's fairly common for a unitary state to contain a particular autonomous area (besides for Ukraine, there is also Finland, the UK, France, Tanzania, etc) but Iraq is special here because in theory it is _supposed_ to be a proper federation but just didn't bother creating the other units.
