This is also how MAGA listen to Trump speeches, I feel.
The original thread about poor literacy teaching is worth reading too.

People are looking at a paragraph and, in their heads, creating a kind of "word cloud" based on word recognition and emotional response, and then reacting to the general idea of that (invented, insular, subjective) word cloud.

Communicating why a 50 year mortgage costs more, overall, than a 30 year mortgage should not be a hard task.
The problem is the average American is both functionally illiterate and innumerate, as a deliberate result of decades of the policies made by the very people pushing for 50 year mortgages.

1/🧵 Much of the progress for LGBT+ rights in the 2010s came from powerful individuals and billionaires who had gay sons. They supported gay marriage largely to protect their inheritance.
As soon as it was achieved, the same so-called “allies” began funding anti-trans campaigns.

It's actually worse than this - Prescott tried to argue that the BBC had inappropriately hidden the fact that a Trans woman in pro wrestling had been part of storylines where she "won" trophies against other women - a fictional sport he treated as if it was real.
It was instructive to see that the Prescott memo argued at one point for completely the opposite: that enabling trans voices even as counterbalance to GC dogma is not legitimate, based on a spurious analogy with maternity care.

It's already happening, but if the Code becomes statutory this kind of gender-policing-based-on-appearance will become an order of magnitude or two worse.
