Corkless heathen.
Was going to say Eden Lake but then lots of people in the thread saying Irreversible and, well.

(I went on a date with someone who said it was their favourite film. There was no second date. I may have moved house not long after too)
Never mind movies you’ve watched multiple times, name a movie you’ve watched once and would never watch again.

Yet more record shop dreams. Anything to do with the owner of the first indie I worked for having died over the weekend?

Might alphabetise something today. For old times sake.

Reading the new @helleborezine.bsky.social short story anthology and realised I’ve never read any Ramsey Campbell before.

Can anyone give me a steer on a good place to start with his back catalogue?

I like that this treats America like a long-fallen empire whose only remnants are these haunted artifacts.

Like Yu-Gi-Oh personas of ancient egypt but applied to The Burger Reich.

Need us to fast-forward to that future fr.

Netflix, which rarely carries a single movie from before 1980, wants you to know how thrilled they are to acquire that classic piece of franchise IP, Casablanca

The big penny drop moment for me using social media is appreciating that people with any following over the multiple hundreds has good reason to treat almost any interaction with guardedness.
Had a conversation on here yesterday with someone who was clearly literally incapable of understanding 'but do you not understand that the same *person* who sees your reply sees ten others, and this shapes all their responses'.

There was a sweet old man who used to come into our shop who was convinced that Boris Karloff was his uncle. Every day a new story.

“They tried to hang him, you know”
“Who?”
“Uncle Boris. But they couldn’t. He was too tall…!”

“They stole his teeth”
“Did they?”
“They were made of wood!”
A very Happy Birthday to Boris #Karloff.

When I ran a chain of record shops, I have no regrets about discouraging Christmas music being played.

“Everywhere else is playing this shite, and we’re a fucking record shop!”
The onslaught of piped in Xmas music is workers rights issue. It was THE thing I complained to management about when I worked @ B&N.
If we had to hear “Baby Shark” everywhere we went for two whole months out of the year we’d throw a fit, right?

And rightfully so.

So tell me, why do we put up with it when the song is “Frosty the Snowman”?

Reader, it was of interest.
Someone asked to see one of my chimney drawings, so I might as well see if it’s of interest to anyone else :)
Ha - the allure of a chimney. I’ve been promising myself that I’ll revisit them and share at some point. In the meantime I’ve got one on my phone, so here y’go.

They make games and movies like they used to. So many of them. Same with books.

But the mechanisms you learned about them were totally gutted and changed to only amplify shit that's already popular.

It's still there! You're just mostly on your own to find it.

Been working through these slowly and they are fantastic. Unsettling and odd and often, I’m not sure I could say exactly why.

There’s one about a man who has someone leaving flowers outside his door which really bothered me.
I just finished the latest episode of Fake Documentary Q, and it may be one of the best yet.

The sheer confidence of the creators doing a haunted house story set during the daytime, and still have it be effective, really shows how great this series is.

Finally—back to my drawing board. It's been a long, long time I couldn't even set foot into my studio (our late son Mike did the electrical wiring & work; the hole in my soul the size of Mike was just... to... raw). Relieved I still have some drawing chops left.
