yeah like it seems entirely plausible to me that your brain "burns" some low-entropy configuration that is reset by sleep, and thinking really hard is gonna "burn" more of it faster

i'd really love to know more about the neuroscience of concentration, like what is it physically doing to your brain, does it put it in a state that you have to sleep your way out of (my hypothesis lol)

i am generally in agreement with OP's assessment that code after ~4 hours is trash, though i have done the occasional binge up to 12 hours (starting in the morning though, never overnight) and the product has been fine, but what those had in common is that there were almost no decisions to make
November 28, 2025 at 9:05 PM
lol somebody should anthologize the confessions of the "engineers" who work for musk
November 28, 2025 at 8:55 PM
(i have personally found that programming allnighters have never really produced anything; can't speak to meth though)
November 28, 2025 at 8:50 PM
yeah like the attitude telegraphs as "oh well guess we're fucked, well, more like YOU'RE fucked"
November 28, 2025 at 2:55 PM
yeah that's possible too

i mean i don't even know if that's a startup. it looks like an outsourcer, which i guess is probably part of the reason why it's wild: the job ad is probably fully mechanized, lol
November 28, 2025 at 1:30 PM
i dunno it's hard not to read it as two distinct roles

like either they're just confused or they're trying to save money by buying one job ad instead of two

bsky.app/profile/dori...
i mean that aside, the poles of that range are describing two completely different roles: the $87k go developer is not gonna be capable of the same things as the $176k one

also mad slops to indeed for making that entire region hot, so i accidentally clicked it when trying to select for the alt text, so now they've registered that click and are going to send me more insane stuff like that
November 28, 2025 at 1:22 PM
also like weirdly precise figures? and not *actually* 2x but ever so slightly more?

like, let's pretend for a moment that your salary is proportional (through some closed-form formula) to your value to the company. what is that saying?
November 28, 2025 at 1:20 PM
and then there's the content itself: something that stuck in my head from mcluhan's understanding media was the quip about how movies are just ads for cultural norms

(the other major reason being ƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒƒ the goog)
November 28, 2025 at 3:34 AM
i get this kind of thing all the time on my gmail account, which is one of the reasons why i no longer use it

there was a great podcast about it a while back: www.lawfaremedia.org/article/chat...
