one thing i think that remains scary is that there's all these social presumptions of privacy that we're just throwing out that people used to enjoy because of the mere physical inconvenience required to find it out
i don’t think it’s a societal problem that young people tend to want to be able to write down things they aren’t ready to say to another person! that’s normal. it’s a societal problem that the place they’re likely to want to write them down might encourage them to kill themselves

Also, the essential tension in a PC game of "is this a bug or am I stupid" is kicked into overdrive as now the game itself isn't sure either

Could fall into a pareidolia window where the thing that mattered fell out of context so now the narrative isn't sure what it's supposed to point you to
right. exactly. if you want to build a game incorporating a LLM, that's just what it has to be. the moment you jump from a continuous to a discrete and bounded space of action all the seams show.
i think this is a case where you either have to be a maximalist about it or not do it at all. the seams are where it gets weird

A way to say this which is closer to the mark is that this is the Smithian desire to be loved and to be lovely, and that when the power differential is large, it can manifest as control.
the whole AI panic is a grim reminder that nobody actually understands what humans care about: control of other humans. We are willing to pay for stuff that is crafted by other humans because we are animals in a social hierarchy. markets formalize and abstract this but it's what drives them.
