Yeah I haven’t ridden since I was about 12 (do miss it! Should try again sometime) but I still distinctively remember a horse falling with me once, landing on top of me and pushing wind out of my lungs. I was fine otherwise but my parents definitely demanded a protective vest going forward 😅

Which also explains why quite a bit of this work is also happening in and around funding spaces and models 😅

The problem is with the funding since social innovation is not seen as valuable as tech innovation in current system. So here we are, with markets shovelling billions into LLMs and people working on genuinely needed and important shifts that could give us a long term fighting chance need to hustle.

Some examples around the world off the top of my head which are at least influenced by cybernetics... The Good Shift, The Bateson Institute, Human Learning Systems, Dark Matter Labs, Centre for Public Impact, Forum for the Future, School of System Change

I mean there are examples of doing just that around the world, still very much not mainstream (especially in politics/ many trad policy areas, annoyingly) but the applied work is happening. Not always called 'cybernetics', but the links with complexity science are clear.

On the bright side, the smell of VapoRub is *lovely*. It's one of those rare sensory childhood memories for me.

Ok, I think we're through the worst, but here comes the dry coughing & throat tingle stage... 😬

I don’t doubt that, although in those particular cases it’s mostly to do with the end of contracts & councils not renewing them which is actually projected to save money year on year. Surprise surprise :) www.holyrood.com/news/view,co...

Ahh that brings back memories of interviews with teachers in Scotland who couldn't hang any educational or enriching materials on the walls in PPP schools because no bluetack or nails were allowed by the owners of the building 🥰 At least it looks like those are slowly returning to public ownership

Ohh interesting, I actually wasn't aware that it was ultimately ECJ's rulings that helped resolve those cases – it's been an interesting skim. My parents were involved in one of those loans and somehow they never mentioned 🤔 www.europarl.europa.eu/RegData/etud...

I mean it’s probably just going to be Berlin, isn’t it. One RyanAir away.

So what German border city is going to become the new Gretna Green if it’s indeed forced through? Any votes? ☺️

I WILL get better before this holiday next week 😤

Right, I’m officially burrowing into a sofa sick nest made of blankets, discarded hankies and an easy access to the books (+telly & PS5 for later obvs) with decreased risk of disturbing my partner. Just need a nice pot of tea now.
November 25, 2025 at 5:51 AM
Ah well might as well get up now 🙃
November 25, 2025 at 5:44 AM
Nice, haven’t slept since about 4; blocked nose. Might have to take sick day 4 days before my contract finishes, which will make the Friday deadline… interesting. At least I don’t have loads left to do, analyse a quick survey & present results since the Big Thing ended over a week go. Still, meh 🫩

Ah yes the good old construction of Normal/ Average symptoms etc. Alastair had many good thoughts about this once. bsky.app/profile/acui...
The Eugenic Knot is quick story of how statistics, categorisation and genetics are all tainted by prejudice and bias. This was also part of #PostNormal talk yesterday.

Aye I’ve heard it’s a bit of a minefield. My friend has the opposite issue - early peri but HRT is not agreeing with her… no easy answers it seems

Anything less than a month is a big success in my books, procrastination wise!
