Those are all things we can help with. And for the businesses that supply that help, it’s business.

Government’s role is to help make the connections, open the doors, and coordinate some of the risk management.

Our report is here.
It makes the case for not waiting for peace to be declared before we invest in Ukraine’s future.

Schools need fallout shelters.
Vets need prosthetic limbs.
Millions of people have hearing damage.

By “focus more”, I mean things like this. It’s one of the first articles I’ve seen about Asia that isn’t about China, the US, or us, in an Australian newspaper in ages.

Jakarta is now the world's largest city dwarfing Australia's entire population
For decades Tokyo held the title of the most populous city on the planet. Yet the Indonesian and Bangladeshi capitals have overtaken the Japanese megacity.

You can download the report for free on our webpage.

It makes the case for not waiting to invest in Ukraine's reconstruction, & it goes into detail about how Australians can make a difference not through charity but through strategic investment & trade: curtinrc.org/publications/

We didn’t have personal locator beacons, we had two EPIRBS per team of four.

They’re suitable for maritime, land or air use: beacons.amsa.gov.au/about/beacon...

Probably their longer battery life was a requirement for our situation, so we had to carry them despite being bigger/heavier.

We used to use them for certain orienteering races, so they not just for yachts. Anything where you might conceivably need an emergency rescue with no good way of explaining your location.
The water-activation has to be turned on.

58% also express concern about discrimination or harassment faced by Chinese-Australians when tensions with the PRC rise.
(16% say they’re not concerned while 25% aren’t sure)

70% support closer relations with ASEAN to balance the PRC. 75% say the same for the Pacific.

For instance, 70% agree that we should cooperate with the PRC on issues like climate change & green steel even if there are political tensions in bilateral relations.

And 80% say their views of the PRC government aren't related to their views of Chinese-Australians.

Generally, I'd characterise the results as very aware of risks & willing to stand up for our friends & neighbours, but also willing to manage the risks so that we can get on with business
(and totally separating views of PRC-relations from views of Chinese people - especially Chinese-Australians)
