Donald Trump has made it impossible for families to make ends meet, forcing them to choose between putting food on the table or paying their medical bills. The last thing Americans can afford is their health insurance premiums doubling overnight. Let me be crystal clear: Donald Trump and the Republican Party that orchestrated this betrayal of the American people are responsible for the men, women, and children who will suffer because they cannot get the health care they need to survive. These are the same people who rushed to vote for tax breaks for billionaires. It is clear whose side they are on. As this vote moves to the House, | stand with Democratic leadership as they refuse to rubber stamp the full-scale Republican assault on Americans’ health care and | am proud of the majority of Senate Democrats who opposed this vote. AG Rayfield files motion to make sure Oregonians can keep accessing SNAP benefits Last night, AG Rayfield and a multistate coalition filed a motion for a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) to ensure that Oregonians can keep accessing their full November benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which were distributed last Friday. This morning, the district court blocked the Trump Administration’s efforts to “undo” the distribution of those benefits. As a result, SNAP benefits continue to be available in Oregon. “This kind of whiplash lands directly on families who are just trying to keep food on the table. The Trump Administration tried to threaten states. Oregon will not let them threaten and attack hungry families and we are going to fight like hell to keep those benefits where they belong.”

This morning, the president ordered states to not distribute full SNAP benefits for November, and demanded that states “undo” any benefits payments that have already been sent to working families for food.

Read our statement in response.
The president is abusing his office and bullying hungry Americans. Putting food on the table is not a political bargaining chip. It’s our responsibility to hold him accountable. We will continue to do everything in our power to ensure that people continue to receive their SNAP benefits, and that includes the benefits that went out on Friday.
