In the northern Cape York Peninsula colonies can number well over a thousand bats. They usually stay within their own territories but one bat was once recorded travelling an incredible 1,300 kilometres!

Lucia surprised us all yesterday by giving birth, 3 weeks before we were expecting it. Brought her into the house to change the dressing on her wound and she'd just popped the placenta out. We quickly took a photo and took her out to the cage.

Lucia surprised us all yesterday by giving birth, 3 weeks before we were expecting it. Brought her into the house to change the dressing on her wound and she'd just popped the placenta out. We quickly took a photo and took her out to the cage.

Another massive rescue today, baby Lady Jayne was found entirely by chance while we were monitoring the colony. Her desperately malnourished mum had “parked” her high up a 25-metre tree, right at the back of the camp in an area the bats don’t usually roost. We could hear her tiny calls, but spotting

We're excited to welcome our newest bat, an as yet unnamed big free-tailed bat (Nyctinomops macrotis). This sweet girl came to us by way of @newildliferehab. Big free-tails haven't ever been recorded in Nebraska before and they assume she was blown off course during a bad storm. Since
