Girl Scout Troop 436 hosted the Glitter Gala and Governance Workshop on Saturday. Over a hundred kids and parents learned about the health and environmental impacts of plastic glitter, signed postcards supporting getting rid of plastic glitter in Anchorage schools, 1/3

Anchorage's own Girl Scout Troop 436 is working to get plastic glitter out of Anchorage Schools. This would be good for our water, good for kids health, and good for wildlife. See how you can help below:

Thought-provoking piece by my friend @rj-x.bsky.social on what happens when robot companions "die", the power of open-source tech, and the obligations of tech companies in an era when people are encouraged to give their hearts to AI. pirg.org/articles/mox...
How open source kept (some) AI companion robots online
Moxie the robot folded when the manufacturer lost its VC funding. Thanks to former employees and some dedicated citizen troubleshooters, some Moxies got a second life.

There is a pending potential rollback of the Roadless Rule in our National Forests- below is a resource to see if your favorite hunting or hiking spot in Alaska could be impacted.

The next iteration of the proposed public land sale would be BLM land within 5 miles of a "population center":
For folks in Anchorage- that would be the Campbell Tract. Don't sell our public lands.

Alaska has an opportunity to improve its net metering policy through HB 164 and SB 150, which will make rooftop solar even more cost effective, leading to more renewable energy. environmentamerica.org/alaska/updat...

I once replaced my phone screen with a 3rd party self-repair kit. I watched videos how to do it.

It would be amazing to be able to do that with the actual tools and parts for appliances.
Alaska's Right to Repair Bill- the Digital Product Repair Act has hearings in both the senate and the house today. Let your legislators know that you want the freedom to fix your own stuff or patronize someone in your local community:

What if "abundance" is a state we've already (largely) achieved?

My addition to the teetering stack of reviews of Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson's new book, "Abundance," at @frontiergroup.bsky.social.

The problems of "Abundance"
In their book, “Abundance,” Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson offer a prescription for what ails America. Unfortunately, they misdiagnose the disease.

Whoohoo! HB 25 which will get rid of foam foodware containers in Alaska is on the move. Polystyrene foam is one of the gnarliest of the plastics, and it will be good for our own health and the health of our wildlife to see it gone. Tell your legislators to pass it!

We had a great first hearing in akleg on the Digital Product Repair Act, SB 111, which is our Right to Repair bill. Folks should let their legislators know they want this either by giving them a call or sending a quick email:

We published a new report this week detailing what authorized electronic repair access options look like in Alaska. The quick summary is- not so good. That's why we need to pass SB 111, the Digital Product Repair Act. It will allow us to fix our own stuff and reduce e-waste.

Did you know that Americans keeping our TVs one more year on average would be equivalent to cutting the pollution created by the annual electricity use of nearly 500 thousand homes? 1/2
