unions in this country have been completely de-toothed, having any militant aspect of them removed or destroyed by neoliberal career opportunists. we must encourage members to lobby for these kinds of changes to organising or to leave the union for a more radical one.

this is the true work of abolition, it's tough, it's messy, its not perfect, but if you like things simple you can hold on to one super-important aspect of it for guidance:
CAUSE NO FURTHER HARM.
and its as simple as that. we must stop materially harming and socially murdering people. now.

they do not understand abuse because if they did they wouldn't be doing it. we need spaces in our world for people to sit there and go "i fucked up, im sorry" and we hold them. and we help them. and we treat them like humans. and we do the same for the people they hurt, but we don't fucking punish.

there are people who are abusing that same power now by harrassing Black Trans women for acting a bit weird around other people. there are people who are weaponising their anger at their lack of power with what little power they have in society against others less powerful than them.

people may say "well Muel isn't this just making excuses for rape and abuse? how will we stop it from happening if there aren't any consequences" and i say that is an ignorant and right wing argument for punishment. people abuse others because it makes them feel powerful. you can't punish that away.

if i ever find out that people have been harrassing or attacking the people who abused and raped me when i was a child in my name, against my wishes (and it would be against my wishes) i would be fucking infuriated. what gives you the right to act in my name? to weaponise my trauma? did you ask me?

even worse, in my opinion, is that these people are harrassed and attacked by people who aren't even the victims, and even go against the victim's wishes. there is no "survivor centred" kind of online or offline "justice campaign" because the survivors wishes are often ignored.

often, calling out people for perceived crimes against another person, only results in material harm for that person, as cancel culture is weaponised most often against Mad and Mentally ill people, Queer people, Trans people and Racialised people, and more often against people who intersect all 4.

things like evidence gathering, investigations, rights of the accused, victim confidentiality and other things in the "justice" system we criticise so often were not gracefully given to us by kings or the state - millions of people had to die so that people understood these things to be important.

when working class people are deemed as "criminals" by the state, we understand this to be harmful, and they are locked in a box for a long time and denied basic freedoms. when people claim to stand against that, but instead engage in vigilante mob justice, it is in fact, not better but worse.
