But a movie? An episode of TV? Even an a memorable or interesting ad that goes viral? Beyond the technology. The only exception is if you tried to break it and make it do something weird and inhuman, which is the best use case for it, but also what the people behind it are trying to 'fix'.

And of course, because it's trained on a volume of data, it tends to produce blandly homogenic results. Everything looks and feels off-brand, in addition to just kinda off. This is passable for lame ads because they already are subordinate to an 'AI' like logic, and most of the training data is ads.

It's sorta like genetics. Each frame is generated off the preceding frame, and each generation is passing on information with a statistically weighted chance to be modified, like DNA - the longer a shot or sequence, the more generations, the more mutation you get, and loss of coherence.

As much as it's neat to have and preserve a tactile vintage experience, that obsession with authenticity™ is also pretty whack. Like all those guys are always using trinitrons with component cables and stuff, not the cheap tvs and RF or rca composite most of us actually had in the 90s
