I teach theatre at a public liberal arts college. I also teach interdisciplinary studies: social sciences, world thought and culture, and research writing. Critical thinking is our last, best hope!

Your Black Friday reminder that in 75% of U.S. industries, a smaller number of companies now control more of the business than they did twenty years ago. We must stop the monopolization of America. Shop small if you can, please.

John Proctor is the Villain fucked me up real good. Basically cried the entire 2nd half of the play. Sadie Sink rules, Fina Strazza rules. It just had its run on Broadway extended through Augut 31st. You should see it.

It’s so funny to see people ANALYZE why Trump fawned over Zohran Mamdani and it’s literally because he’s an old man who watches news TV all day and the man from the TV came to see him which was very exciting

Your political views aren't just opinions.
They reveal your values, your capacity for empathy, and the way you view other human beings.

Tears for Fears release “Shout” 41 yrs ago today.

The ‘80s, said Roland Orzabal, brought “a lot of fear, a lot of political tension. .. It’s really about empowerment — about refusing the roles you’ve been told to play. It’s an invitation. It’s saying: if something is wrong, say so. Say it loudly.”

Some vaccines like COVID and flu don’t stop completely stop infection.

But they do reduce the risk of getting infected and greatly reduce severe illness risk.

They are still worth getting.

Since they are not 100% effective it’s also wise to add another layer of protection by wearing a mask.

My new piece @thenation.com "It’s easy to get distracted by Trump’s celebrity feuds, but we should never lose sight of his master plan: to push our media world so far to the far right that he’s never asked about his sexually predatory or homicidal friends again." www.thenation.com/article/soci...
Trump’s Quest for Total Media Control
Look beyond the petty celebrity feuds, and you'll see a plan to transform American media companies into outlets for MAGA agitprop.

If we are just going to ignore everything insane he says…how about not reporting it?

It’s too much smoke…

Focus on the cruel, illegal, unethical things he DOES…and hold him accountable.
So Trump's whole "punishable by death" comment is really just gonna wash away in the span of a 24 hour news cycle, huh?

We really are broken as a society.

elise stefanik’s whole campaign for governor was relying on trump amplifying accusations that mamdani is a jihadist and not only did he have a great time meeting the guy, he directly rejected agreeing with stefanik, specifically.

incredible stuff

Watching The American Revolution. Thinking about 10,000 British troops in Boston and ICE/troops occupying cities now. This tactic forces war.

Few things bug me more than higher ed leaders saying that we lost our mission and lost the trust of the public, when we have actually been the target of a decades-long smear campaign by the right wing that worked. The moment we’re losing our mission is right now, in capitulation.

Peter Hujar's Day opens in NYC today and I hope some of you will treat yourselves to this beautiful, thoughtful escape into a vanished world. It's a small-scale, large-brained movie that blooms beautifully on a big screen. One of my favorites this year.
I saw a special film at the #NYFF: Peter Hujar's Day, Ira Sachs's meditative recreation of a 1974 interview with the photographer. Vividly evocative of a lost gay New York, and Ben Whishaw, using only a transcript, goes so deep; he does the kind of work that should be up for awards but rarely is.

October hit a 20-YEAR RECORD for layoffs under Trump as aviation is collapsing, airlines told to cut 10% of flights. Even after 9/11, aviation wasn’t this hollowed out for this long. This is an embarrassment.
