Into the face of the young man there had crept a look of furtive shame, the shifty hangdog expression which announces that an Englishman is about to speak French
Interesting… I have to admit, as a basic North American, that configuration hadn't even occurred to me 😅

I mean, weren't the old contraflow bus lanes on Pie-IX dismantled and rebuilt as a BRT at great expense because they were too difficult for Montrealers to understand?

I should add that the transfer to the REM will be seamless, indoors and in many cases cross-platform, whereas the "transfer" at Sauvé is a bit of a trek and completely outdoors

In the olden days before covid I used to commute downtown, and taking the train at Sauvé was a bit faster than taking the metro, given the fewer stops and the fact that my destination was close to Central Station.

But more importantly, it was way more comfortable than the metro for the same fare 😎

I live in the neighbourhood and even though I can walk to the orange line in 10 minutes, at certain times of day apps will suggest that taking the frequent 121 bus to the REM is competitive, especially to go to the heart of downtown, i.e. McGill Station. Train to REM will be faster than bus to REM

As it is, people still love it. I took it downtown yesterday afternoon from Deux-Montagnes and regular people were crowded up front at the foamer window the whole time, huge smiles and looks of absolute astonishment

It'll be great once the other branch comes online next year and the off-peak headways on the main trunk get cut down, and when Exo finally gets around to having the Mascouche commuter train terminate at the custom-built REM transfer station at Côte-de-Liesse as it is supposed to.

I took the 121 ouest around noon-ish, a few people got off with me to get the REM at Montpellier. And the train going towards Brossard was absolutely slammed, barely anywhere to stand, let alone sit.

Hopefully they do something about these 10 minute headways!

As someone who clings to an iPhone 13 Mini and an accompanying stable of delightful, braided Aukey lightning cables purchased before the ban, this is very interesting information to me 🤓

I was crushed when there was no stamp at Édouard-Montpetit 💔

The elevators are cool though! 🛗

You gotta hand it to the union. The REM announced the November 17 opening on October 20. Based on precedent we basically knew the open house be on November 15-16.

So on October 23 the union dutifully called a strike that would also take place on November 15-16 and have refused to budge ever since 👏

"…intervention des services d'urgence". There was a study cited in La Presse last year that the Montreal Metro has the most outages caused by its own users in the world. News stories about Metro outages would almost need to be stories about society losing its way. Much easier to moan about the REM

I think this is the one I was thinking of in my other reply. Thanks for confirming I'm not imagining things 😅

I seem to recall there used to be a pedestrian bridge over the tracks north of Mont-Royal station in the days of the Deux-Montagnes train. Has it been removed?

J'ai jamais vu autant de panneaux écrasés comme ça que dans notre beau quartier. Sur Sauriol et Prieur, un vrai classique récurrent depuis que les pistes existent

If you look at the logo closely, you'll notice the N in NOW stands for news 😅

Every station a cathedral to public transit

In Montreal now everyone blasts their phone speakers on the subway (and everywhere else) all the time, the age of Canadian civility has come to an end 😿

I mean, you can disagree with this snap election thing that's been promoted all over the place this week (including by some liberals themselves), but Coyne seems to harbour equal amounts of contempt for both Poilievre and Trudeau – I'm not sure he's in the bag for the blue team…
